Katarina Witt started to ice skate when she was five. As her natural talent became more apparent and she was accepted into the Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on children who have a sporting talent. Her coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, when she finished second at her first World Championships at Copenhagen. In the years since, Witt's elegance and grace have caught the interest of all.
